Week 22

Wednesday, February 11th, 2015

Start: 9:45am
End: 5:00pm
Time: 7.25 hrs.

I went to Iolanta/Bluebeard's Castle yesterday with my friend Grace and it was AMAZING. Here are a few pictures! It was actually spectacular. This was the opera that I was the most excited for this season and it was everything that I expected it to be and more! This was also Grace's first opera so that made it really fun too-- to also watch someone fall in love with opera for the first time (which she TOTALLY did). Anyway, today was a little slow in the office, but I think that's my fault. I'm fasting in order to prepare for an upcoming retreat which is tomorrow, so I was a lot slower than usual. In general I made a few name tags, wrote up some thank you letters for donations, and continued working on the master posts. Even the social media meeting today was super short since it was mostly master posts and we didn't have a staff meeting today.

Just as a warning, I may stop posting blogs here from now on or just may post less often since it's no longer mandatory. So if anyone is reading this and would like to ask me any questions about my internship, feel free to contact me at KatCoo@bergen.org!

Week 21

Wednesday, February 4th, 2015
Start: 10:00am
End: 5:00pm
Time: 7.00 hrs.

Finally, a normal day at internship when I'm not all around New Jersey and New York! Today I just went straight to the Guild and even though I was just assigned one long chore to do, it was nice to be back in the swing of things (even though the musical is not anywhere close to being over).

Stuart emailed me earlier this week talking about cataloging a few DVD's and I was sorta terrified when I heard this because I thought that he was referring to the DVD's I had alphabetized earlier in the year and that would take forever to catalog. But luckily, he explained everything to me and even though 133 DVD's is still a lot to handle, it's not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Here's a picture of all of my DVD's after they were organized and cataloged! And cataloging, to be honest, wasn't even that bad because I had to watch each one (only a few seconds of each) so it was interesting to get a small taste of each opera. I wish I had time to watch all of them!

During my lunch break I did some Class Council stuff, specifically drafting a few emails for the upcoming fashion show. The way the Guild conducts themselves has actually helped me very much in how to be a good leader who is direct, to-the-point, and very efficient with her time. After drafting the emails, it was time for our Social Media Meeting. Along with laying out how the rest of the week should go, we also started to look ahead at March since February is so short and although it's just started, it's going to be over in a second! March is Women's History Month and we're planning on showcasing famous conductors, composers, and administrators who are women. I'm excited!

It was announced at our Staff Meeting that ticket requests for March are due this Friday. I really want to see the Double Bill of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci! When I was a sophomore, I played the Intermezzo to Cavalleria Rusticana with my orchestra at MSM and I fell in love with it, it's such a beautiful piece. In fact, here's a link! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OvsVSWB4TI We also discussed how the Guild created a new mission statement and the way they came up with it is actually very interesting. First, they came up with a 15-word statement, then 50, 100, 250, and 500, and the longer it got, the more in-depth they went about the mission which I really like the idea of. Also, our new tagline is: "Enriching people's lives through opera"

But back to organizing these DVD's! I have a bit of a dust allergy so that's been bothering me today but I'll get through it!
